I have been teaching private lessons for almost 10 years. Study with me if you like to gain facility and proficiency on your chosen instrument, an understanding of how music works, and the skills it takes to sound good and enjoy performing. I help my students reach their goals, whether it's getting a better technical understanding, learning to play for fun, or getting ready for a big performance or audition! I love working with kids and adults alike! Read More

I teach from a flexible curriculum depending on the student's goals and interests. If someone wants to learn technique, music theory, songwriting, how to play Taylor Swift songs, arranging, composing, confidence, et cetera we will work on what is driving them to take lessons and learn! If the student is younger I will provide them with an organized syllabus and “fun” damentals! If they are older, I will help them find a way to stick with the music and accomplish their goals. Coming from both Jazz and Classical studies, I focus on the fundamentals. Especially with young students still forming language skills, I work on ear training. I'm concerned with teaching a strong sense of pitch, harmony, and rhythm. I believe it's very important that a student learns to read music and become a literate musician. I also stress creativity and learning to play by ear. Instead of trying to create a musical clone of myself, I work to give students the basic skills, work ethic, and confidence they need to find their own voice. Read More

For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. I first began teaching while attending Berklee. I would substitute teach for upper classmen in local music schools in the Boston area. After Berklee I taught full time for one year at a local music store. While attending MSM I taught group classes in New York City middle schools on Clarinet and Flute. After MSM I started my full time teaching studio where I was on faculty at 3 schools in the Westchester area. Read More

Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder

My name is Andrew, and I am a dedicated and passionate music instructor based in New York City. I graduated from Temple University in 2014 with a degree in Jazz Performance (Saxophone), and have had the privilege of working full-time since then as a performer and private educator. As a freelance woodwind player, I have had the opportunity to perform and record in a wide variety of musical styles and settings. Read More

Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder

For beginning young students I prefer the Rubank Elementary Method for saxophone, clarinet and flute, and my own (unpublished) method for recorder. For older beginners, there are many books on the market. I'll work with what the student perfers. For more advanced students there are classic works such as Klose for clarinet or saxophone, solo works for competition or performance, or just for fun. I want recorder students to learn the 2 basic sets of fingering, since ensemble playing usually requires changing instruments. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
