I always create a unique lesson plan for each student based of their age, skill, and most importantly the music style or genre they want to pursue. I approach every genre with a strong foundation in order to make repertoire more approachable, such as learning a variety of scales, developing good tone, and working on method or etude books to strengthen the range of possibilities on their instruments. I teach at the pace of the student, setting small achievable goals each lesson. I encourage students by acknowledging their progress and finding out what excites them. Students are encouraged to take what they've learned and participate in recitals, competitions, and any other musical opportunity they can find. I believe music should be taught as a means of personal expression, and so I also make sure to give students the tools they need to play in an expressive fashion, or even write their own music. I start all students with getting a firm grasps of the basics of tone production and air support. I do this through long tone exercises as well as scale work to start learning more notes on the instrument. I focus on slowing incorporating more dynamics, articulation, and time signatures from there.
