I cater each lesson to each individual students needs. The thing that I love about teaching private lessons is that each and every student is different. Whereas with group and classroom teaching, you try to make each student fit the mold, private students, I try to fit YOUR mold! What makes you tick? What is your passion? What drove you to want to learn your instrument? Who inspires you? I look forward to learning all these things and MORE about you! Read More

I began teaching private lessons in 2005, and I have a variety of teaching experiences. I have since substitute taught every kind of subject, and I've taught general music K-5. I have mentored conservatory level students when I was in grad school, I taught flute to non-flute music education majors, and I've taught undergraduate students that were pre-music. I taught 3-8 year olds music at Laurel Hill Summer Camp in East Setauket, Long Island. I've also taught workshops on South American Folk Music with Alturs Duo, as well as flute masterclasses. Having played everywhere from Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado to Elkhorn Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho to Valdez, Alaska to Cobo Hall in Detroit,Michigan, I have lengthy performance credentials and even more varied experience in the styles and situations that I have performed in that include: rock band, orchestra, concert band, jazz combo, folk duo, Big Band, marching band, drum corps, celtic rock band, traditonal gaelic ceili, flute choir, pit band, church choir, chorus, show choir, vocal solo, commercial voice-overs, vocal duet, musical theatre, etc. Read More

I am a classical and jazz pianist who loves teaching people how to play piano. I graduated from Sonoma State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Jazz studies. I love learning about and teaching music theory as well. In addition to learning songs, I make sure to incorporate technique along with sight reading, and music theory during the lessons. I have a passion for teaching students the rich harmonies of the jazz genre and improvisation. Read More

I create my own lesson plans specific to the students need and goals. There are core elements to my teaching that are constantly enforced, including my level of importance placed on rhythm and the aural tradition of music. Singing melodies, clapping rhythms and drum parts. Listening to music and talking and a gentle musical analysis of what we are hearing. I believe that everyone is first a person then a musician and then an instrumentalist. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 17 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and private schools/universities for the past 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
