My ultimate goal as a teacher is to create independent musicians capable of creative thinking and musicality long after they have left my studio. While reading the notes and rhythms is obviously important, understanding why those notes, rhythms or markings are in the music will help students develop and learn musicianship skills that are often overlooked. Providing students with performance opportunities and sharing my passion for music help students stay encouraged and become creative and independent thinkers not just in music, but other areas of life as well. I am a Music Therapist that also has a passion for teaching the piano. Learning to play the piano as a child was so beneficial mentally and emotionally, and it created a positive outlet for me during all seasons of life. I continued my studies at Arizona State University under the instruction of world-renown pianist Walter Cosand. During my time in college, I played professionally with my brother and we recorded 2 albums together. Read More

I do my best to tailor my style to each students specific needs and goals. In general, I am a very laidback and patient teacher. My students recieve clear and achievable goals at the end of each of their lessons to work on while they are practicing during the week. This enables students to be able to really see their own progress as the practice. I also believe in music lessons being an enjoyable experience for students so I include students in making the decision for what pieces they would like to learn. Read More

. I love Music! My family has always incorporated music into our lives. Some of my earliest memories are being danced around in my Mom’s arms and listening to her sing. I began formal lessons on the Piano when I was 7 years old. Growing up also I sang in the Church Choirs, played on Hand Bells, and explored the Flute. I spent a formal year each on Trumpet, Drums and Harpsichord and am currently working on learning Zither, Autoharp, Dulcimer, and Soprano & Alto Recorders, and sometimes the guitar (when I have a chance). I use several methods; Royal Conservatory of Music, Alfred, and Faber to name a few. These publishers provide lesson books, theory, and pieces. The selection of books will vary because there is no "one size fits all" solution. I introduce fundamentals, then solo pieces in various styles. Often same concepts are used in different types of music. So for example, musical structure within a piece can be shown in classical and even popular music! Read More

I am dedicated, persistent, and reliable. I am willing to learn and keep learning for the advancement of myself and my students. A well-rounded appreciation for music as well as critical listening and ear-training skills will be taught. I also maintain a pretty fast paced lesson, enabling the student to have plenty of practice material, technique studies, and goals to meet. I will record the student's progress electronically so that the student may better understand and learn from their lessons. I will inspire my student’s, positively influencing and encouraging them along our journey of musical discovery. Read More
