Once the student has progressed to have a grasp on fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. And then I'd teach it to them, while also explaining scales, how to build chords, and the theory used in the song. I have several different books for Saxophone Students that feature technique, solo repertoire and duets. Then I take the things I don't like about the method and disregard them (pre-established repetoire, no composition or improv).
