I first began teaching in 2012, when I gave volunteer drum lessons. Shortly after that, I began giving piano and voice lessons both in schools and one-on-one. Currently, when I'm not teaching private lessons, I work part-time as a traveling pre-school music teacher, where I teach preschoolers music with my guitar, picture books, and even puppets! I am comfortable teaching students of all ages but prefer young children, as they can benefit the most from developing a passion for their instrument, which can lead to a lifelong pursuit of music. As I taught private piano students, I constructed my lesson plans very carefully with clear objectives and goals. I try to provide every student with rich experience, while applying different teaching methods to each individual according to their learning styles, abilities, personality and cultural background. As for group piano classes, many students were not piano players; compared to my private students who were very high level, I taught fundamental piano skills for these non-piano major music students classes, which were in fact difficult. I've been teaching for 20 years. I love to teach primarily because I like to impart knowledge about music; but I also enjoy interacting with people. I think that the student/teacher relationship is a very importnat element of music education. I'm a patient teacher who creates a comfortable atmosphere for students. I find that this greatly facilitates the learning process. Read More

I tend to edit my teaching style based on how successfully my students meet their goals. I honestly love teaching young and beginning students because they're an absolute blank slate, something I do not take lightly. Having fun and establishing a strong practice routine is paramount with younger students. I emphasize listening to records/music with all students but especially with more intermediate to advanced students. If I have a student that wants to become a more competent jazz player I'll try to recommend some famous records with tunes that are commonly played. Read More

My teaching style is light and fun and geared to the temperament of the child and the specific goals of the parent. My methods are traditional pedagogy. With younger students under the age of 5 and special needs students I make use of tactical manipulatives for example play doh to assist with fine motor skills. I also incorporate if needed coloring full body movement etc if needed. I try to set realistic goals with both the student and parent bringing various rewards and incentives for achievement.. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. Teaching materials are carefully considered by me according to the progress of the students. Piano examinations and competitions are essential to help fuel students desire to progress and make students eager to learn more. I would instruct students to be responsible for their own lessons with good preparations and good attitudes. Read More
