I will typically begin with Alfred's Basic Piano Library book for piano students, as I believe that the best way to truly learn music is by playing songs instead of exercises designed to demonstrate techniques and concepts. The introduction to theory and different genre of music helps to keep students interested. So just one basic piano book may not be enough. When beginner students start lessons with me I generally use a Lesson Book and eventually a Technique Book and soon after some kind of Theory Book to learn behind the music. For the lesson book for beginners I like to use the Alfred's Series, which has all kind of levels of beginning piano whether you are 4 years oldup toadult. For the technique book I like to use a Hanon series, which I start first with exercises by rote and patterns until the student can read music and understand the exercises in the book. Read More
