For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Faber series, along with accompanying primer theory and lesson book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. In addition to this, I typically start to add scale exercises to increase strength and speed in one's fingers. I think that every student is unique. I tend to create a custom program for every student, based on his/her special talents. By special talents I mean student's psychological particularities and tendencies. Student can have a very good sense of rhyhm, for example, so I am going to give this student some pieces of Spanish composers, like Albenis or some rhythmical jazz pieces.
