I began my music career in Germany when I was 8. Since then a day has rarely gone by where, if I had a piano, I did not practice it. I had the wonderful opportunity to study with amazing teachers I've the years. I studied with Katalin Staplefeldt in Westport, CT FOR 8 years and then, after moving to London, studied with Dr. Gregory Peppetone for 1 year. Following the departure from London of Dr. Read More

I try to get to know my students in the first few lessons so I can be more sensitive to their personalities. This helps me choose the best teaching approach for them. From the very first lesson I create a relaxed setting so students feel no apprehension, especially when trying something new. This allows them to feel free to take chances and experience playing music as something enjoyable, not a life or death situation! Read More

I do my best to be a relaxed, grounded teacher who reminds the student to relax and enjoy the process of making music. I do listening exercises, clapping, counting, reciting the letters of the notes with their voice, and demonstrate the songs they are learning to each student. Each lesson is a celebration of music in a carefree environment filled with song and smiles. I always find something I like in each performance. Read More

I am a driven and passionate instructor who focuses on students' artistic and personal growth as musicians. I began my musical journey as a singer, moving towards piano and guitar throughout my formative years. In high school, I performed as a choral singer, musical theatre artist, and as a pianist for both jazz groups and worship settings. While an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, I studied tenor voice with renowned operatist John De Haan and piano performance with Jamaican pianist Paul Shaw. Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master. This means that every student's schedule is customized to their learning. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
I have ADHD, so practicing can be a little challenging to me. To stay focused, I have to sing the melody of what I'm playing in my head.
Leave your phone in another room. That can be a huge distraction. I try to get anything that can take my mind away from practicing out of the way beforehand. (Homework, work, etc)
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
I would say whenever they express an interest in music. Even if it's them hitting a few keys on the piano nonsensically. It's never to soon to start building a relationship with music. More seriously, I would say once they start understanding and following directions.
When will I start to see results?
This really depends on how much the student practices and their desire to improve. Improvement can be seen after the first lesson if the student understands the instruction and follows through. Nothing major will happen overnight though!
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
My sister played piano and I wanted to be just like her. I chose violin because an orchestra came to my elementary school and I immediately fell in love. The next year, I picked up flute because I didn't think my new school had an orchestra. I thought it would be the closest to violin. It turns out they did and I continued to play both. I somehow managed to keep up with piano throughout all of this.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I wrote and performed a piano piece that was absolutely awful. It was probably my biggest failure as a musician. I decided to not let this failure define me, rewrote it and turned it in to a piece for full symphony.
What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I spend about 20 minutes warming up on scale exercises. Then I move to parts of repertoire that trouble me. When I feel like I have accomplished that, I practice going into and getting out of the section for smooth transitions. I try to practice for three hours.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have a Bachelors in contemporary music composition and am currently pursing my masters in composition. I chose this because while I love performing, I love creating even more. I have been writing music since I was six years old.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I would probably be an elementary school teacher!
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
Classical. I like how intricate it is and how much you can do with it.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I love learning. I heard someone playing violin and fell in love with the sound and decided I had to take it on. The same happened with the flute. I then went on to learn how to play clarinet, sax, cello, viola, and mallet percussion I wanted to get as comfortable as I could with as many instruments to better myself as a composer. While I can't play those last ones proficiently, it helped me understand music more.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Everyone in my family draws and paints, so I'm kind of the odd one out. I tell everyone that I paint sound!
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I think once I got to college and people started labeling me as a professional. It was really weird, but I started to like the new title, so I rolled with it.
