After finishing an apprenticeship in carpentry and becoming a certified carpentry journeyman, I worked as a trade showroom carpenter in Berlin and Vienna. For my mandatory conscription in Austria, I served as an ambulance paramedic. I obtained a bachelor's and a master's in music and dance performance and education at leading universities in Salzburg and Barcelona. I start off all beginning students by teaching them the fundamentals of singing. If students have taken lessons in the past, I work on reviewing fundamental concepts with them. When a student first begins lessons, I typically spend more time on helping to build the student's technique than on repertoire, and as the student progresses, I split the lesson more equally between the two components. I believe in motivating students by helping them learn the repertoire to which they are most attracted, though I do also give them repertoire of styles with which they may be less familiar in order to help them solidify their technique. After my own experience with it as well as teaching it, Suzuki has great techniques and music for getting students experience in sight-reading, ear training, and memorization. With the youngest students I start with the fundamentals such as naming the different parts of the instrument and some basic rules with notes. Acronyms and games are always the best way to memorize the different rules. I write out detailed lessons plans for each individual student, constructed specifically for their learning process.
