The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More

I teach music by breaking down the elements of a performance to as digestible a lesson as the student feels comfortable in tackling. By setting such a pace with realistic goals I can keep students engaged and encouraged to work through material and really achieve a feeling of competency. I encourage players to learn a piece thoroughly and practice often finding that by the time they've memorized the music they can work on the finer aspects of musicality and performance that really elevates the work. Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on. Sometimes if I have a student that likes Pink Floyd or Eric Clapton, for instance, I will do my best to come up with a simplified version of a particular song using good ole staff paper. Read More

It is extremely important that lessons are relaxed and fun. The student needs to work in a supportive and safe environment which encourages risk-taking and exploration. Praise and positive reinforcement are essential. I like students to explore their creative sides through composition and improvisation. I introduce chords and harmony and have students develop their own arrangements of pieces studied, This gives them a sense of empowerment and discovery. Students develop positive self-images and this makes the lesson process all that more enjoyable. Read More

My methods definitely vary depending on the level and experience of the student. However, the fundamental exercises and order of warming up is very similar throughout the different levels of experience. It would start with long tones, then we would move on to lip slurs, then scale exercises and after that we would love on to music and etudes. For beginners I would work on embouchure technique and figure out what works best for them, and at the same time is also efficient in improving. Read More

My experience date back to my early college days, where I began as a volunteer piano teacher for veterans in a retirement community. I taught for a few months, when I was approached by two different women, one who wanted me to perform cover songs at the retirement facility that she managed, and another who wanted me to give her husband private music lessons. I performed for a few years during college, but stopped teaching after my only student moved away. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
