For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I use some custom lesson plans, including some of the following: For piano, I explain the music score to start elementary reading, work on hand and finger positioning, and move to simple scaler melodies. I introduce chord theory and understanding including triads, position changes, an later on sevenths and ninths. Exercises include scales for 1 and the 2 hands, Hanon exercises, and more. Not every audience likes the same type of music so the performer has to be versatile.   Similarly, not every student likes the same kind of music so the teacher should be able to adapt.   The same thing applies to teaching methods.   The same method doesn't work with every student. I was a member of the University of Sonora choir for more than 4 years, always leading the tenor chords, helping them to achieve musicality and hearing all kinds of voices. I helped them with the piano to sing different voice melodies in different languages. When I graduated, I started to take private students, helping them with breathing and music lines.
