I started teaching my nephew, who was fourteen at the time, the guitar. First, with the basic easy chords. Then, we would play along together, especially the easy songs he liked. After some time, he began to get excited about the guitar, and began practicing on his own. Now he is teaching guitar in Orlando while he attends University of Central Florida. I also helped his younger brother learn easier ways to finger pick melodies, which he preferred. Read More

After Book 1, we can explore Book 2 or start looking at more difficult repertoire. For intermediate or advanced students, we will focus a lot of one and two octave scales and being to introduce either the Suzuki book series or standard repertoire. Advanced students will also use books 5-7 of Suzuki, standard repertoire, and two to three octave scales. Piano: New piano students will either start with the Piano Adventures series by Faber (for young beginner students) or Alfred's Adult Piano Methods (for older students or adults). Read More

I changed direction and my life style, for the next 30 years playing in praise and worship ministries, in some of the largest churches in American and locally..... playing guitar and bass. My approach is very simple.....Dream....... and study your instrument, and you too can make your dreams come true what ever your dream is in music. My approach and style with my studentsis, more ofapplication. One approach is,building a strong foundation by learning how to read musicorif you chose, tolearn how to improve your "ear" and read charts. Read More

When teaching strings to beginners I tend to teach out of a string methods book but I also offer stylistic direction outside of the book. I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book. I offer compositions fit to the level of the student and give them the opportunity to bring them up to performance standard. Read More

Hello, my name is Nate Bernard. I have been guitar instructing on and off for 15 years along with performing and recording music. I teach strictly by the book as I feel any student I teach who are just starting out, will have a better understanding of their instrument in the long run. I like to make learning the guitar fun, and put to ease the frustrations of doing assignments that will inspire any child or adult to want to learn more. Read More

I'm not one to push a student too hard; after a certain point, it becomes counter-productive. Everyone is going to progress at their own rate and it's my job to find out what that rate is. Naturally different people will gravitate towards different things. By putting some time in and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, I can address certain concepts accordingly. Personal preference is very important; you can't force enthusiasm. Read More

The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More
