While my primary focus is performance, I have taught piano since I was 10. My approach is tailored to the individual student. While I love teaching classical repertoire, I use the student's current musical passion -- be it rock, jazz, pop, theater, or classical -- as the key to opening a pathway for artistic development, technical confidence, and understanding. I begin by teaching chord progressions, which permits immediate immersion into theory, technique, improvisational skills, and confidence. Read More

He was in 7th grade at the time. If that were not enough, Filippo also helped Owen in his performances as well, teaching him from Bach’s well-tempered. His instruction also helped Owen place in a state-wide competition for high school students.I cannot express how grateful we are to Filippo for his instruction. Beyond the music accomplishments, he was a role model for my Owen. He taught him the joy of music, and the work and play that goes into the creative process." Andrew Ladd, Phd Madison, WI Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio as well as private contracting studios. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of my key points I like to emphasize for students of all ages, as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.“The fact that music education creates well-rounded, confident children, helps them become whole human beings who are sensitive to the world around them and teaches them the ability to think critically is why finding your music and giving your kids music lessons is such and important worthwhile undertaking. “ Read More

I am on your side and want you to succeed. That being said, I have a fairly structured lesson. Starting with a breif warm up, we wilk touch upon a review of the previous lesson, technique drills, and then the music we are currently workung on. Read More

For beginning students, particularly children, I use the Piano Adventures books. I recommend the student getting their Lesson, Theory, and Technique Artistry books to start. From there I will add in popular and classical pieces based on the students interest and ability. I do almost the same for teens and adults, just using the Piano Adventures adult books. I have used this method for almost my whole career and been nothing but pleased with the content. Read More

I believe that you never stop learning. Even when you are teaching. Thus I am not the teacher to show up without my own equipment and sit quietly while on plays what I gave them the week before. Everything will be done together. Iron sharpens iron. Goals will be realistic but challenging. Each session will include a review of everything else that's been worked on. Read More
