Hello future students! I much enjoy sharing my experience as a creative musician to my students whether they are 5 or 55, beginner or advanced. I am a patient teacher and do my best to encourage each student to find themselves as unique learners (musicians) unto themselves. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2002 with a BA focus on Music Composition. To me it is very important to balance the technical and creative aspects of development. No matter what age/skill level I split time during lessons into activities that develop technique and language, and compositional, creative activities that help each student explore their instrument and what they have to say with it. This balance can be altered depending on the interests of the student or parent. I like to teach at your pace. If you want me to teach you songs, we can learn tabs and chords. Also, I can teach fundamental music theory which includes things like scales so you can solo on your guitar in certain keys of the song. The theory will also tell you which chords you can play, so if someone says play in G minor, you know what notes are the right ones to play. Read More

Since moving to Ann Arbor 15 years ago, all of my students have reached the top band in their high schools and most were first chair/section leader by their senior year. I generally use Alfred for piano, both the children's and adult's versions. I use Hal Leonard for guitar. For both violin and double bass, I generally use either Belwin or Essential Elements.
