Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. My father taught me methods of how to learn and thats what I use to teach. I gained more experience helping people write essays and do home work. I was brought up learning the Suzuki Method of Piano. This method has its benefits, but I also utilize other methods such as Faber's Piano Adventures or Clark's The Music Tree. Developing a good ear is essential when trying to express yourself musically. Piano technique is also essential when trying to execute what you want at the right moment.
