In Russia, I was a concert pianist as well as a teacher of classic piano theory and performance.  I was a soloist who performed with a full orchestra as well as being a chamber musician, accompanist for singers and for strings. Since I came to the United States, I have concentrated more on teaching.  I have taught piano at many music schools and have also given private lessons, both at students' homes and at my music studio.  My piano students have won multiple awards at music competitions in Russia and the United States.  In 2006, a student of mine won first prize at the West Chester University Music Competition.  Then in 2011, my students won prizes in the International Music Competition, the National League Competition and the Tri-County Competition. I describe my teaching style as casual in that I tend to encourage creativity along with traditional classical music teaching. Also, I avoid repetitive drill and favor teaching derivation such as intervals as the basis of all scales and chords instead of memorizing scales. I integrate chords and chard variations as appropriate with the execution of a song. My experience in teaching started when I was in undergraduate school fullfilling my vocal pedagogy requirements and was instantly drawn to it. I have always been selected to be the section leader in choir or the vocal coach in my casts and it has allowed me to better understand how we learn as musicians and Ive taken that with me into my own private studio. I began teaching my sophomore year of college teaching a beginner class aimed at teaching 5-8 year olds the foundations of music in a fun and interesting way. Soon after, I started teaching private piano and voice lessons to students age 8-18 as well as directing performance program shows. I have found that letting students pick their own material to work on helps keep them motivated and interested. I began teaching during the last few years of my bachelor's degree, I remember taking a Flute Pedagogy class which provided me the basics as to how to demonstrate concepts to students.
