I'm a long standing guitar instructor, very pleased with my occupation. I actually hold a degree in science rather than music but I just celebrated my 10th anniversary as a guitar instructor as well as my 22nd anniversary as a guitarist. I love all kinds of music and personally enjoy learning many styles of guitar, which in turn allows me to teach a wider variety, so that students can develop their own personal styles and interests. Over the years I have taught at many schools including School of Rock. I've taught students the basics of technique and music theory on guitar, I've taught students vocal technique and health, and I've even taught songwriting, composition, and electronic music production. When teaching, I've always found it helpful to have a variety of styles and approaches. Students can learn just as much from a rock song as they can from a jazz tune, an EDM track, or even classical music. Read More

A beautiful sound is the beginning of the creation of beautiful music! I find it most important to do work on a student's sound in the beginning stages of playing. To achieve the foundations of a good sound, playing pitches (beginning with A on alto) on the mouthpiece alone will develop the student's sound from the beginning as well as lay the foundations for a good embouchure. Doing this brings awareness to the students use of air by showing him/her the muscules used within and around the oral cavity in order to produce an optimal sound on the saxophone without developing bad habits that could be detrimental to a student's health. I am a young musician seeking to inspire students through sharing my knowledge of all things music. In May of 2015, I graduated from Eastern Univserity with a Bachelor of Arts in General Music. Since then, I have performed around the Greater Philadelphia Area and beyond as a bassist. I have also been featured on a couple recording projects as a bassist. When not performing locally, I serve at local churches as a bass player, as well. Read More

Learning a musical instrument is very challenging and for most of us it doesn't come naturally. It's unfortunate when students become frustrated too quickly in the process and decide to quit out of frustration. In my style of teaching, it's very important that students feel some level of success no matter where they are in their own musical journey. Often I will perform lesson materials in unison along with students to help them if they are feeling anxious or uncomfortable. Read More

Before heading off to college and over course of two summers, I had the opportunity to study at the prestigious Berklee Five Week Summer Jazz Performance Program. For the second summer, I auditioned and earned a half-tuition scholarship. While at Mason Gross, as well as having the opportunity to study with Ralph Bowen on a weekly basis, I had the amazing opportunity to study with one of world’s greatest jazz drummers and composers, Victor Lewis, and other luminaries of the music including pianist Bill O’ Connell and bassist Kenny Davis. I think that students learn best when they are relaxed and having fun. So, anything I can do to keep it light - whether it's drawing a picture to make a point or making up silly words to learn a complex rhythm or using crayons to mark the sections in our music - is a win in my book! Laughing and making mistakes are a big part of learning. When my students make errors, I don't scold, I say "good for you, now we can learn something!" I believe that it is both possible and critical to develop the student-teacher relationship as a collaboration. Read More
