Of course in adults the methodology can not be the same as for a child, since normally depending on the age, it will be more developed or less the cognitive part, depending on the age it will be the type of pedagogy used, for example in children from 5 to 10 years old the level of requirement is less than one between 10 and 15 years. In adults, progress will depend if you have developed a musical and rhythmic ear Read More

I believe my overall style in teaching music comes from my love of music and desire to help others achieve their musical goals in a way that is engaging, meaningful and fun. I have always believed in adding an element of fun to lessons. My band and choir students played games, performed for younger students in surprise concerts and had karaoke parties. In private lessons, students will play duets, sightread and use the IPad games and floor keyboard to help with note reading skills. Read More

I have been teaching music for the past 25 years. First in the Public Schools in Tennessee and Florida and at the college level. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

My philosophy is if it isn't fun; nobody wants to do it. My method of teaching provides simple psycology in making praticing fun. The piano needs to be praticed every day if the student wants to progress! For Children I teach pop and classical piano, where as adults I try to find out why they want to play and what style of music they would like to play. Many adults don't desire to be a concert pianist but, If you'd like to play for fun; maybe play at a party to entertain your guests and you would like to play popular music; there's a class specialized for that. I first talk with my students to figure out their goals. Once a reasonable goal has been agreed upon, I enthusiastically help them jump right into playing their instrument. By breaking up portions of the lesson with review of simpler pieces, I encourage my students to play fun and simpler things as well, so that they do not beocme frustrated. I always bring my positive attitude to each lesson, and have the students write down what to work on after each lesson. Read More

When will I start to see results?
The amount of time in which a student will start seeing results depends on a few important factors.
They are:
1. Student's dedication and amount of practice time.
2. Teacher's ability to present material, and to spark student's interest (which helps tremendously with point 1)
3. Frequency of lessons. You will see faster results (especially at the beginner's level) with twice-a-week lessons as opposed to once-a week lessons.
Normally, first simple songs can be played (and read) by a beginner student withing the first few lessons, then difficulty of music pieces gradually increases and withing a few months a student would normally be able to play both hands simultaneously.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
You can start at any age, as soon as the child is ready for classes intellectually and psychologically. You can start with someone even at 4 years old, but sometimes it is better to wait and start classes at 7-8 or even 9 years old. Despite the fact that all children are different, there are still age-related features that somehow affect the educational process.
For example, if a child begins to study at the age of 7, his education will advance faster and more efficiently than if he were to start at 4.
It's a matter of every individual student and his/her ability. Booking a trial lesson and hearing an honest teacher's opining would give you a better idea about whether or not your child is ready for a lesson.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
When practicing piano fragments need to be repeated a many many times. But you must also alternate repetition with the allocation of time for the work of the subconscious. This means, ultimately, during a night's sleep. It is when your work begins to dream of you that you begin to memorize it. The dream is the result of this integrative work of the unconscious.
This leads to an amazing practical consequence: In order to learn something in the most effective way, work on it with full concentration for a certain period of time (15 to 20 minutes is more than enough), and then forget about it until the next day.
The next day, repeat the same procedure for the same period of time and forget again until the next day. Repeat this for as many days as necessary in order to play a given passage in such a way that you cannot play it incorrectly even if you try. I assure you that you will reach such a moment in a maximum of seven days, usually much less. This requires incredible discipline and consistency. But the method works like magic.
