My teaching method is different depending on the abilities of each student. For beginning students, I use the Haskell W. Harr Drum Method Books 1 2, Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone, and The All-American Drummer 150 Rudimental Swing solos by Charley Wilcoxin. Once I feel like a student is strong enough on the snare drum, I will then work with them on developing limb independence on the drum set. All of the snare drum method books that I use with my students will eventually be adapted for drum set. Read More

I encourage students to learn and work on music they are passionate about. I expect students to practice regularly to the best of their ability. I am patient and tailor each lesson to the student’s skill and comprehension level. I work with students to help them establish good practicing habits. To me it is most important that the student is having fun while learning; therefore, as a part of regular instruction time we play games to learn and review material, skills, and performance techniques. My musicial experience started at the age of 7. This was the beginning of my formal classical piano training. In high school I stated learning more about the fundamental concepts of Jazz. While attending Cal State for three years I quickly developed and focused on arrangment and composition for all types of music. I have over 15 years experience teaching private lessons at students home as well as at my studio. I truly believe in all my students and try my hardest to encourage, promote, and evaluate weekly progress. At the end of the day each student can say I did my best because I practiced and accomplished my goal for set for me this week while having fun learning. Read More

For piano I use a combination of the Bastien books, if you are a beginner. For more intermediate or advanced I use whatever music the student is interested in. It could be the Great American Songbook or classical music. For percussion, for beginners I use the Garwood Whaley book, Fundamentals for the Snare Drum. For drum set I use the Syncopation Book by Ted Reed and a variety of other books depending on the need. Read More

I'm an extremely dedicated and passionate performing artist, composer, and instructor with a BM in Jazz Studies from the USC Thornton School of Music. I love all aspects of playing, teaching, and writing music, but my favorite part is sharing my passion with others and watching a similar passion grow in themselves. I have been playing saxophone for about 12 years, flute and clarinet for 7, and drums and piano for the past 3 years (so I can only accept beginning drum and piano students.) I love all types of music and will work with you on any genre you want to work on while improving your overall facility on your instrument! Read More
