I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. I started teaching full time, at which point I added piano and speaking to my repertoire. I have experience as a performing singer, session musician and actor and I I love helping my students get the most out their lessons, whether they simply want to learn their instrument to the best of their ability, or learn more about writing music and the industry. My high school had a very successful marching band program and was closely tied with a local drum corps, which helped me become experienced in leading group rehearsals and clinics for drumlines and front ensembles around this time. My teaching style is instill the love of music in students. I do want my students to grow up and still playing piano because they love to play, not because their parents forced them to play. I want them love piano from the bottom of their hearts. In order to achieve that, I adjust the material according to the student's progresses. For me, enjoyment as well as developing proper, healthy technique is key. This means that student may have to do more gritty work than with other teachers, but this pays off as they get to tackle more challenging rep and ultimately can connect skills to repertoire more quickly. However, I always like to meet students where they're at. If they want to learn how to play their favorite pop song on piano, or want to audition for their local theater's musical theater production, my priority will always be teaching in ways that the student feels is relevant to their goals and interests.
