I started teaching piano at age 16 after being certified by my own instructor. I had one student I saw weekly and though at first she was against the piano, I worked with her intensely on genres and styles that she enjoyed playing. I also substituted for my piano instructor when she was sick and taught a plethora of children. When I volunteered at the local elementary school, I taught grade schoolers piano on the upright in the auditorium and that's when I fell in love with inspiring future musicians. Read More

I began teaching in college and was a graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma. I taught private lessons in my professor's home studio, group lessons for undergraduate courses, and private lessons in our pedagogy teaching lab at OU. I've also taught private piano lessons at North Central College, Naperville, IL, Harper Community College in IL and Meredith College in Raleigh, NC.  I have even been able to tour abroad in Venezuela, Brazil and Austria.  I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful musicians and conductors along the way, and would love to pass my knowledge on to you! I use Suziki Violin Method, Bastian for piano. I have also been developing my own method, and it's dependant in the students agenda. I encourage the building of reperatore early on. I have also used Liytle Einstein piano method and varies products produced by Hal Leonard. I find the students goals are very formative to the approach I choose to take. Once a beginner has grasped the very basics I quickly find them some repertoire they want to work on so they can play a ‘real piece of music’. I find that students love that first realisation that they really can play their instrument. For more advanced students or adults we work on repertoire they like and that will push them forward. What is most important is to keep lessons and practice fun and engaging, whether by playing music the student likes or by achieving a goal such as a recital or competition. Read More
