What drives my passion for teaching is the collaborative atmosphere and those "a-ha!" moments when a lightbulb goes off. Learning is all about the act of discovery, and I facilitate students in finding their natural love of music. I challenge students to approach problems from all angles to help them understand music on a deeper level. Recognizing and rewarding every small improvement helps the student gain confidence, which in the long run makes for better musicianship. Read More

I’m a friendly and kind teacher, and I love sharing my love of Music with students both young and old. I studied at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before going to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester at 18. As a student I began working as a freelance bassoonist, around the UK. I spent a good deal of time playing in the orchestra for choirs and amateur operatic societies. Read More

I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. I'm always excited to help students at any level explore music as a means of learning about and expressing themselves, while gaining and improving upon this new skill. Read More

For beginning students, I begin with basic open chords and scales. Once the student has basic chords down I like to teach them a song of there choosing. I found this to be one of the most rewarding experiences when I began taking lessons. For adults, I like to hear any ideas they may have and give my input and direction. I work hard to keep lessons engaging for adults, I like to think every student can learn something new every lesson! Read More

I'm a patient and caring individual who believes in giving back to the community because the community has given me so much. I enjoy playing and teaching music more than anything. I've had the opportunity of learning from many great teachers in the state of North Carolina, and have had the privilege of being a part of groups such as the ECU Wind Ensemble, ECU Marching Pirates, ECU Trumpet Ensemble and several other quality groups. My choices in books and other resources for the student are based primarily on the students' individual goals, needs, and interests. Generally, I approach the subject matter with firm but relaxed expectations, giving the students freedom but also requiring them to pursue a specified goal. This may include allowing the student to take a break from a challenging piece if necessary, to let their mind calm down and refocus while they practice a different piece with different requirements.
