I first started teaching when I was 17 years old. Then I went to college for training into this area of teaching. I was also involved with the Bradley University Chorus. Some of my teachers included Ralph Nielsen, father of Rick Nielsen of the group Cheap Trick, Mary Weyhrich, Marilyn Cade, and Jan Wanach. My school provides opportunities for two recitals, Christmas caroling, music scholarships and I am the Rockford Founder of the Carnegie Hall National Voice and Piano Exams. Read More

The most important goal I have in teaching voice and piano is to grow the student's love of music. I love customizing lessons to a student's abilities, interests, and learning style. I prioritize the student's enjoyment above all else, but students who make an effort to work and learn will always find their instrument to be more exciting and fun. For this reason, my lessons are always highly goal-oriented, regardless of how fun they are! Read More

My focus is to do all I can to assist my students in achieving their musical goals. Wether delving further into the craft of music as a hobby, beginning the process toward learning a new instrument, or seeking to set down the path of a professional musical career; I ensure my students are granted the very highest musical experiences they are looking for. Many of my students have begun their musical instruction in my studio and have gone on to become music educators, professional Broadway and international performers. Read More

I began teaching voice during my undergraduate college years. Since then, I have taught both in-studio and in-home lessons. My students have consistently received high honors in solo and ensemble performances, as well as singing, leads in school and area productions. My piano students develop good beginning technique and theory skills that help prepare them as they move into the advanced repertoire. Both my piano and voice students perform in competitions regularly. Read More

I find that this reflection also promotes positive self-monitoring, self-motivation, and a deeper investment for most students. I also consider open-mindedness a key factor in the success rate for vocal students. Each individual has a different experience while singing, and to hone in on this uniqueness is paramount, though tricky. Trying new ideas, new exercises, new genres, new languages, etc. is how we can best challenge our instrument to reach new heights and feats we may not have even considered before. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching privately in 2009, and have been consistently teaching students inside and on-line from my home studio for the last 7 years. Committing to consistent practice as your schedule allows is one of the key points I emphasize for all students regardless of age, as only the consistency will help you progress, after all music is a language. My approach has always evolved and adapted as I learn new concepts and techniques, however I would summarize my approach to teaching piano as focusing on rhythmic development, playing-by ear with music reading supports and adding the perspective that the piano is a percussion instrument. My teaching experience started back when I was a teenager and I provided lessons from my home. I have also taught in my church on occasion. I love seeing kids as well as adults learning to play music as I feel as they get enjoyment out of it just as I did when I first started learning to play. When I teach I like to recommend regular practice not just with kids but with adults as well as it builds progress when they come in for their lessons. Read More
