Nothing is more exciting than seeing one of students enjoying playing the piano, I try to determine what inspires each students and set realistic goals for them. To some students , I encourage them to practice only a few measures, while another student may complete the entire piece. Each student learns and progresses individually, I try to find out what inspires the student, and gear my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I usually use the Faber, Beyer, or Czerny depend on the student's level. I'd add Hanon, bach 2,3 part invention, Sonatina album, and the list can go on. For Jazz, all I need is manuscript paper and a Jazz Real Book (I'd hand out some exercise notes). For advanced students, I want them to listen to music a lot. Listening to music is very critical, it is just as important as practicing the instrument. Read More

I have a variety of books I use for beginning students, depending on age and level, including the Alfred guitar book for kids. Regardless of level, I always help students learn some music they are already interested in, as that is a key path to enjoying both the pure joy of music itself and the delight of learning something you didn't know you could do. Another important pathway that I explore with students, earlier or later depending on the student, is to begin to learn to improvise and compose their own music. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For beginning student who are especially children, I start with Hal Leonard's Children Piano book. And once student has progressed to have a skill, then I suggest some of easy solo repertoire appropriate or sometimes I made my own piece for them. For teenager and adults, I normally try to find out what they want to play and interested, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I'm fairly flexible, laid back in my teaching style, and always passionate about helping those who need it. At the same time, I also encourage discipline and consistency in practicing and making improvements. I always try to keep each student learning at least one new thing for each lesson, while allowing him or her to make steady and consistent progress without getting stuck in a rut. I always encourage steady and consistent practice throughout the week to further individual progress and get closer to desired results. Read More

The key to progress is a solid foundation. For all students I will focus on core techniques and practice habits - from there we will dive into repertoire. Through our discovery of what music elicits a passionate response we will tailor our work towards building a foundation that best fits each student. Materials will vary widely based on the students needs. I employ techniques such as the Jaques Dalcroze Method and the Alexander Technique - both of which are rooted in the physical aspects of playing music. Read More
