I also provide outside supplemental technique exercises if I feel they are needed. Once they become proficient in reading music I will begin to add solo repertoire that implements the techniques learned up to that point. For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I was viola section leader during three of my four years at Gaither High School, inspired to pursue music by my orchestra teacher Heather Grier (world-renowned violinist and friend of Andrea Bocceli).
