I've been teaching since 2006 at Baldwin - Wallace College, where I became an Adjunct Lecturer in Piano by the recommendation of the piano pedagogy faculty in 2007.  When in town, I've been teaching students primarily from ages 5-25, in traditional repertory and to help other older musicians hone specific skills.  I've taught students who have played in recitals, church services; including students who composed music that appeared in the Cannes International Film Festival, and students who wished to only play privately.  I pride myself in my strong technique which I credit to my background with the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is one of the biggest benefits that my students quickly take on.  I specialize in teaching classical music, and I also teach basic jazz and pop improvisation, to all ages. I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument.  Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Faber Piano Adventures, Standards of Excellence, and/or any beginning book the student will enjoy. For beginning adults, the Rubank Elementary Method books, the Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien, and/or any other books the student would enjoy. Along with those books of instruction, I would encourage students to learn level-appropriate solo repertoire. At the intermediate to advance level, I would encourage the Hanon Virtuoso Pianist book, the Sonata Album for the Piano from Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics, and the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet and for Trombone. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hannon and Byer for the basic traning, as well as John Thompson. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
