I have extensive experience as a private teacher (25+ years). I teach cello, violin/viola, and piano and have taught students ages 5-65. I also have prepared students for specialized middle school and high school auditions, pre-college programs, and other auditions. In addition to private teaching, currently, I teach group string classes in Harmony Program NYC. Since I play the piano I'm often the accompanist for my students' recitals. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I began teaching music while I was in high school to younger students. Once I began college, I discovered that I really enjoyed teaching music and had a gift for verbally communicating complex musical ideas in an easy fashion. After moving to New York, I opened my own private studio and began teaching full time. I have experience teaching people of all ages and experience levels; ranging from beginners, to college students, to professionals, and I love all of it. Read More

My teaching style is to connect with each student. I believe it is important, because every student learns at a different pace and in different ways, so the lessons can not be overly structured. I believe that all aspects of music (playing the pieces, reading music, theory, rhythm and history of the composers) are all important and should be covered in the lessons. Read More

I typically create my own lesson plans and try to cater them to the student. Most recently I've been working with trying to find a balance of teaching music theory and practical piano. When teaching theory, I often refer to Kotska's and Payne's "Tonal Harmony" for the order of the curriculum, and when it comes to exercises I will either write them out on the spot to demonstrate something to the student (I also feel it is important to SHOW the student how to MAKE music, ie. proper note notation, and symbol shape), or prepare them in advance if the content is more complex. I've been teaching children at different ages and in different scenarios, if it was musical theater or middle school children preparing for their prom. I also played extensively in Israel's most famous acting college, where I gained the ability to guide actors towards a more polished and honest interpretation. I also taught older people and found that to be a very rewarding experience. Many people report that I explain difficult concepts very well and have a way with teaching, which is great because I enjoy teaching tremendously. Read More
