Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I start most beginning students (and evaluate more advanced ones) on snare drum or practice pad. This is a central instrument to the percussion family and most techniques used on other percussion instruments are based on sound snare drum technique. I like the Alfred Drum Method book for students just starting out regardless of age as the ability to read and understand written music is important no matter what stylistic path one follows. I want my students to gain the most experience with technique and musical concepts early on in lessons, so theres always time to enjoy what they have learned. I've noticed over the years that the age old "book-first-music-later" approach to teaching can actually stifle the creative spirit in young students and hinder their growth or even discourage them all together and as a result they lose interest and move on. Music is my life, and I love to share my passion with others! I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1997, majoring in Music Production and Engineering and Voice. I have been producing music, and I have been teaching voice and piano off and on for 25 years. I am a singer songwriter, and I play with my band "Dream Jeannie". Some of my other paid jobs include producing cultural music, singing back-up vocals for a local artist, and teaching for Tacoma Public Schools, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, The City of University Place, and Taylor Robinson Music.
