I understand that it is difficult in the beginning and progress can be slow, but I encourage my students to keep chugging along. I've been teaching music, in some capacity, since I was 17 and captain of my highschool's drumline. In college I taught drumset lessons to students of all ages and in graduate school I taught a music theory course for 5 semesters as well as classical percussion to 6th - 8th graders. Getting to know my students, what they like and don't like, what they read and listen to, is one of my favorite things and I think it really helps engender a life long passion for music when a teacher takes a personal interest in the students lives. I strive to make the lesson space one that promotes positivity, experimentation and excitement - with these as a foundation we can make the hard parts more enjoyable! I have taught over 10 students in the last 5 years and am adding more almost every week. I have the ages 7 to 45 and am open to teaching anyone. I am the cello professor at George Fox University and have a lively Suzuki Studio in West Linn, OR. I began teaching cello in high school in California. I have taught at the college level as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Washington where I taught undergraduate non-majors and string technique classes. I have also held a position as a professor at Edmonds Community College. I love teaching young cellists and was a teacher for several years with Seattle Music Partners, a free after-school music program for elementary and middle school string students. Read More

Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson.
