I've been playing, singing and performing more than 10 years. I honestly feel there is a lot for me to learn too, but also have a trustworthy experience on this, reason why I'm able to share a lot of knowledge with my students not only about music but life too since after all they are really close to each other. I currently play at the UNM top jazz big band, and in a few jazz combos within ABQ. Read More

I always keep the students in mind with progression and excitement constantly. The throwback from week to week will give both the student and teacher a insight what has to be improved and advanced. I have many students playing professionally in bands and orchestra's as well. Each student has individual needs that will be in conjunction with the personality of the student a great rapport with both of us or group I am working with. Read More

I facilitated individual an group musical collaborations, and helped train people to do the same via workshops I facilitated at conferences. I have also led community singalongs, and taught individual students vocals and percussion over this time. I'm a big believer that everyone can sing and everyone can drum, and that music is a gift inherent to being human that we all can share and rejoice in. I encourage students to become comfortable with vocal and rhythmic musical expression, and teach tools and techniques and exercises that can help develop their skills and craft. Read More

I like using the Faber books for children and supplement with classical pieces from Snell. For adults, I see where they are and use adult beginning books or other appropriate material depending on their interests. I usually start each student learning their major chords through the keys as soon as they are physically able, because once you learn your chords, sight reading and other playing becomes much easier. i also teach scales because if you can play your scales you can learn to play in all different keys. I believe teaching music doesn’t just teach music—it teaches us life skills that are applicable to any field and any situation. My teaching philosophy is a mix of many ideas, and I believe it is more successful the more places I "steal" ideas from. As a music teacher at the 21st Century Public Academy, and the 2nd, being my job in the Army as a member of the 44th Army Band. Read More

A relationship with music is a very personal thing. To some it is all about the competition while to others it is simply the joy of playing for one's self. It is my job as a teacher to help each student discover what it is they want to get out of their experience with music and then help to nurture that experience. To treat music like a sport and assume that all students have the same expectations is a mistake that is made all too often with our schools and is, regrettably, all too often the main reason why so many kids choose not to continue with music. Along with a strong background of fundamentals found in Faber's Adventures, Burnam's Step By Step, and Snell's Repertoire, I help students from five to nine with personal selections based on interest. Examples would be Disney songs (Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast), Gospel and Religious (Jesus Loves Me, the Dreydl song), or superheroes (Spiderman). Ten to 14-year olds have used favorites from around the world -(everything from Greensleeves to Malaguena, In the Hall of the Mountain King and more superheroes like Batman and Iron Man), plus classics by Beethoven and Bach. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
