I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers. In college, I continued teaching as a part time job while at home during the summers, and when I returned home from touring, I taught at several studios in the Sacramento area, teaching private voice and piano, and classes I designed curriculum for, such as Musical Theatre for Beginners, "We Sing Disney", and Singing for Ages 8-12. I teach mainly out of the string builder series. After the student shows some progress I will introduce some solo pieces and maybe some studies to practice. My method really revolves around the student since everyone advances at their own pace. Some other method books could be Kreutzer, Sevcik, and wohlfhart. In addition to working with standard repertoire and method books, I devise my own exercises to help with breath control, tone production, rhythm, aural skills, and other topics. I dedicate particular time and attention to the areas where I believe each individual student can benefit the most (e.g., tone quality, counting, etc.). For young students, I like to incorporate music games and improvisation into my teaching, both of which help the student develop essential musical skills in a fun, relaxed way. Read More

I love to see my students realize their growth as they work on their singing. The way their faces light up or the way they grow an extra inch with pride simply fills me with joy. I tailor each of my lessons around the student that I am teaching because no two voices are alike. David began a successful career as a free-lance musician, performing in various venues in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. In addition, he also taught privately in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. Since relocating to Sacramento in 1999, he has continued to perform as a free-lance musician in Northern California, while maintaining a private teaching schedule in Sacramento.
