I am a recent conservatory graduate with a sincere love for both classical music and teaching. I spent much of my childhood and adolescence learning cello and piano, went into electrical engineering out of high school, and ended up somewhere in the middle studying audio engineering and cello performance. For all students, I begin with assignments from 24 Italian Art Songs to teach fundamental vocal technique and develop a classical sound. Depending on the student's interest, they will also be assigned musical theater pieces or art songs in varying languages as well. As a student's ability level goes up, they will be assigned more difficult repertoire as appropriate. My beginners generally start with the "All For Strings" series to obtain the basic elements of violin playing. This curriculum provides students with virtually every phase of beginning through intermediate string study. I introduce solo repertoire that matches the musical interest of each student. I also guide my intermediate students through study of their current Middle School or High School orchestral repertoire. With adults, I endeavor to combine their tastes and interests with musical literature that is fun and sustains interest such as Mazas and Viotti duets. Read More

In my teaching, I like to have a strong focus in fundamentals while still fostering an enjoyable and entertaining lesson atmosphere. A solid basis is fundamentals will go strides in the student’s confidence. A well balanced medium between fundamentals and fun and creative learning is where I like to focus my teaching philosophy. Having played professionally since the age of 18, I bring a solid professional ethic, traditional technique and boundless enthusiasm to both playing and teaching Double Bass. Having traveled extensively and toured with The Smothers Brothers and Phylis Diller, I can provide insight into the practical aspects of performance and practice routines. Although I encourage the mastery of traditional Double Bass technique with the bow, I love to encourage and assist students in a variety of styles and idioms, including Orchestral Bass, Jazz, Country and Bluegrass. My first experience as a teacher came as a sophomore and junior in high school. I was involved with a program where high school students would work with elementary school band students once a week, and help them work on their band program music and develop their musicality. I found the experience to be extremely rewarding, and have maintained that interest in teaching. I spent time in college working as a music theory tutor for beginning music students, and in graduate school worked to develop and implement lesson plans for beginning clarinetists. Read More
