I believe that students need to be taught to teach themselves. As a teacher, my role is to guide the student toward realizations with appropriate materials and information. However, the most beneficial learning occurs when the students feels they were an active participant in the discovery(ah-ha! moments). I can give students the answers, but I tend to use more leading questions to get them to figure out the solution on their own. Read More
Instruments: Drums
My goal and method of teaching is to give the students the tools they need to play whichever kind of music they are currently interested in. I do not like to teach genres or songs specifically. I like to give the student the correct tools and exercises to make them a great musician and drummer in any style of music they would like to play. I use methods and exercises that work on coordination, fluidity, control, speed, and musicality. Read More

For me, the most vital aspect of teaching involves creating a self-motivated student. I believe that you can do this by teaching music that is of interest to the person you're teaching, and by introducing material that is graded in such a way that it is always a little bit more challenging than what your student is used to (no matter the level they happen to play at). As mentioned, I make my lessons light and fruitful. I don't want students to feel stressful learning guitar, I love it when students are at ease. I encourage students to improve at their own pace. However, it's also important to attend classes regularly (once every 1 or 2 weeks). This way it helps students keep track of their progress and not lag too far behind or sometimes even forgot about what they've learnt. Read More

I've taught in a myriad of environments. My earliest goes back to instructing marching band/indoor percussion programs. My most recent marching program was Fusion Drum Bugle Corps. My college studies helped me branch out musically, and thus I started dabbling in private instruction which I found very fulfilling. I was a graduate adjunct instructor at NYU, teaching primarily concert snare drum. Nowadays, I teach at private music studios (a la School of Rock) and am building up a studio of my own! Read More
