My approach to playing and teaching music is to never limit your options! Providing a well-rounded understanding of your instrument and its capacity to create art that you enjoy is first and foremost. When I began taking lessons, I put in time to learn technique, scales, arpeggios, but also had a teacher help me explore learning songs from recordings, aural transcriptions that transfer to your instrument. This not only helped me stay interested in music, but also broadened my taste in music, period! Read More

I have been teaching since I was 18 towards the end of High School. I taught lessons part time through college and since graduating college have maintained a steady roster of students. I focus on getting to know and understand each student and their goals to customize lesson plans for that individual, all while covering the essential and important fundamentals. I encourage students to give me a list of their favorite songs so we can learn them, play along to them and work towards possible recitals and/or situations where they can play the songs with other musicians! I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. The student will be given work that is reasonable to practice once a day for at least 10-20 minutes a day. Read More

My philosophy of teaching has always been to customize the student's lessons to match their interests, while ensuring that they receive a extensive foundation that will let them move in any direction they may choose. The methods and materials that I select for my students are always focused on enjoyment as well as efficacy. The goal is to get the student playing musically as soon as possible. While I stress the importance of practicing effectively, I understand that students move at their own pace and tailor the lessons to reflect this. Read More

I have over 40 years of teaching experience, both privately, (one on one) and in classroom settings, both at the public school and college level. I also am available to teach in the homes of students OR in my teaching studio in Williamstown NJ. All my students are encouraged to perform in various community groups, and in honors bands throughout the area, as well as encouraged to giving recitals when or where appropriate. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than experiencing a student develop a style and passion for guitar! I would say that my style of teaching leaves a lot of room for growth, but doesn't neglect the fundamentals. I'm also going to encourage you, push you, let you grow on your own, open your ears to new sounds and ways of thinking, be disappointed in you (for not practicing!), be proud of you (always, of course), and many other fun things. Instruments: Saxophone
In high school, I primarily played tenor saxophone. There, I had the distinct honor of leading the marching band, wind ensemble, and jazz band saxophone sections as section leader, a position in which I held the responsibility of teaching, preparing, and organizing students to meet the challenges of a variety of musical performances. As well as performing in nearly every music ensemble at the high school level (including performances of the musical “Little Shop of Horror” on alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and flute) I had the distinct honor to participate in the classical and jazz offerings of the rigorously auditioned Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) ensembles.
