For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki method and music theory combined. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I like to find out what my student's goals are, and then I tailor the lessons to their needs. If my student is in high school and wants to apply to University for voice performance, I will make sure they start with the 26 Italian Arias, and we will also work on languages, since certain Universities require their singers to sing in French, Italian, German, English, and Spanish. If I have a student who wants to sing in musicals, we will work on show tunes and classic music theater music, but also classical music, as that is the foundation to all singing. Read More
