I have a degree from Wayne State University where I studied Jazz Guitar and Music technology.  I've played in bands ranging from Big Band Swing to Country to Punk Rock playing guitar, bass and piano/keyboards.  My studio is equipped with two amplifiers and the ability to record the student for playback. For beginning students who are children, I start with Essential Method Book for Strings. Once the students has progressed more, I use Suzuki Method books, and also, choose (introduce) solo pieces for recital performance. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in and find the book that fits their interest (and guide my instruction accordingly to engage them). For each instrument, I have the same basic approach: discover what they like, assess what they can do, and begin with the fundamentals.  If a student is more advanced, I still like to spend time on fundamentals at the beginning anyway to see if we can fill in any foundational weakness that the student may have.   For each instrument, I also have a wide array of repitoire that I give students that zero-in on technical challenges a student will be presented with.
