For students who are older, I use a combination of methods, including Alfred's, Bastien and Faber. These groups I played with US Army Bands as a trumpet and horn player. These Bands included the following Army Bands: 191st, 116th, 484th, 312th, 159th, 59th, 84th, 300th, 104th, 451st, 389th, 6th, Ft. Ord, 133rd. My active duty performances included active duty 84th, 389th and the 33rd. Playing duets and tunes form the basis of lessons. You will learn scales and chords, rhythm, tone and being in tune. I like to include a bit of playing without reading music, depending on what your inclination is. For more advanced flutists, we will play Bach, Mozart, Telemann, Quantz (a flutist!) and whatever music you like and bring to the lesson.
