I also teach private lessons at a local studio, and I can be found in Old Town on Wednesday and sometimes Saturday nights jamming with the Jazz musicians of this wonderful city. I have taught choir and band from the 5th grade level all the way up through high school including subjects like music theory, jazz band, treble choir, marching band, and percussion ensemble. I have also taught general music from kindergarten up through 5th grade, and assisted bands at the university level. Read More

Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well. Once a student has reached proficiency in the Alfred's series then I like to move into classical or other music as that a student might be interested in. Read More

I don't believe in wasting too much of a student's time running scales. I'll test your ear and your sense of pitch with a few scales initially, and then move on to the study of singing styles, the key aspects or projection, dynamics, phrasing, and how to blend your influences into your own style, while offering some tips on breathing well and staying fit: a great singer, much like an athlete, must stay in training, and always have ears to hear more and learn more. I try to keep the student as interested as possible, some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More

My studio exists to help the everyday singer or the gifted vocalist with aspirations of a music career. Many people wish to sing better but never do anything about it. People often try to imitate established singers, hoping to produce the 'sound' that these others have accomplished. In my studio, each studentwill know the excitement of discovering his or her uniquely beautiful sound. Learning to sing better should always be an uplifting, activity, thoughmy 'kids', regardless ofage. In order tosing with ease and freedom, a singer must feel free to explore. My lessons encourage personal freedom so that learning can take place.
