I have been teaching on and off since 2010 and now teach almost exclusively from my home studio in Bloomington, IN. I've had the experience of teaching everyone from 4 year olds to advanced adult students and implemented various teaching methods for the many different minds learning styles. I always liked to look at the art of music like learning a language so I have since learned to create individualized lesson plans for my students that gives students plenty time to "speak", that is learning the fundamentals, phrases, and tools to share their personal story and to study the vast pedigree of music that has come before them. I have made a lot of sheets/handouts that I have collected over the years and give these out to my students for free, this has worked well for most students. I try to adapt my teaching style to fit any student and help them achieve their goals and believe the best teachers are able to break down complex ideas or difficult concepts into simple steps that any student can follow. What do YOU want to learn!? In order for me to teach you, I need to learn about yourself in order to assess the best way to help your overall instrument skills. What kind of music do you like? What is your current skill set? What are your overal goals and aspirations? These things help me to provide a curriculum that is specific for each individual students needs. Each student is blessed with a specific skill set and talents, and it's only right that I spark an interest and a desire for students to want to practice, and become excited for the next lesson. I am a singer/songwriter who enjoys the process of creating a song from start to finish. I also am a studio singer and love the experience of being in the studio recording my own original music. I graduated in 2009 with a contemporary music degree that provided a well-rounded musical education. My favorite part of my educational experience was the time I spent at the Contemporary Music Center at Martha's Vineyard for a special off-campus artist program. Read More

For adults, I would continue using these books but at a higher level with supplemental material on the side, which may include solo repertoire appropriate for them and Hanon's Virtuoso Pianist exercises (a few, not all). For voice students, I try to find out what it is they are interested in singing; I am comfortable with all genres but it should be noted that I am classically trained and can work more easily and comfortably for those wanting to sing classical music, musical theater, and church related music. A student must enjoy what they are working on in order to progress. Read More

I try to inspire students to become passionate musicians and people through my teaching and by example. It is important to play from the heart and not just notes on a page. It makes music and flute playing all the more gratifying! I also provide a lot of positive encouragement for students in their music but also for their lives in general. I believe that it is important to create a level of trust and comfortability with students so that more progress can be made on the flute. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Classical Guitar
I have spent the past three years teaching group and individual lessons in pop and classical guitar as part of my graduate studies at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. This means I have taught college-aged students exclusively, up to this point. However, I am completely open to teaching students of all ages. Most of my students have been complete beginners who have little to no experience making music, so I am absolutely comfortable working with novices. Read More
