For students who are just beginning I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I personally have worked through this text and I find it more than appropriate for the beginning violinist. As we progress we will graduate to the Suzuki Method books Volume 1. For intermediate students, I will assess the skill level and work from there. To keep learning fun and amusing, I will introduce music of my student's choice. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with Faber and Faber book sets. I then use the books to help guide the students as they grow their abilities and levels. For adults, I would also use Faber and Faber adult beginner books. As well as other adult beginner books based on the music genre preference of the adult. For all student I will also include some of my personal music theory, practicing log book and flash card methods. Read More

Setting up goals to students at the beginning is a way to keep them motivated during lessons, by breaking down their goals into smaller pieces, It becomes more achievable for the students, I follow up a lesson plan depending on the students knowledge and level, everybody is different and for that I always incorporate lessons that goes with the kind of music they inspire yo play, I will bring composition activities, ear training activities and music theory activities too, there's so much to cover but these lessons are important because they will bring confidence and ability to make their interpretations when students want to learn a song, Read More

I have recently moved to the beautiful state of Florida, and love it here! New Mexico was my home prior to moving here. I have performed in many ensembles, and do solo recitals annually. My performance experience includes Symphony Orchestras, Pit Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Chamber Music, Polka Band, Latin Band, Big Band, and I have been a guest soloist on several occasions. In addition to music, I enjoy photography. The YouTube video on this profile puts my two passions together....my music, and my photos. Read More

The first step of teaching an instrument to anyone is accurately finding out how experienced they are with the instrument. As far as beginners go, when I was taught piano I used Alfred's Basic Piano library, among other similar books. I felt nothing was forced or unnecessary with those books, and it gives a good opportunity to set a nice goal-oriented pace with moving on up in skill level all the way to the upper intermediate level. I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. When teaching strings to beginners I tend to teach out of a string methods book but I also offer stylistic direction outside of the book. I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book. I offer compositions fit to the level of the student and give them the opportunity to bring them up to performance standard. Read More
