I began teaching in my early college years dating back to 2010. I have since taught students ranging in all ages from 6 to adult. Not only have I had many double bass students, as that is my primary instrument, but I have also taught trombone, beginning violin, and music theory as well. I highly encourage my students to practice regularly, as consistency is the key to developing any new skill. Regardless of their ages, I always attempt to establish what a student's interests in music are as well as their background and present faculties if applicable. From there, I attempt to develop an understanding of musical fundamentals (pitch, rhythm, timbre, dynamics) as they apply to their interests. It is crucial in my opinion to connect these essential elements of music to the context of a student's musical world. I think people should be allowed to explore whatever voices they find true and beautiful - and feel free to add their own voice.
