I have taught beginning violin using many different methods and books, including but not limited to the Suzuki Method, Essential Elements for Strings, and All For Strings books. However, I have found that the best way to engage students and maintain progress is not to keep too strictly to any one method, but to find what best suits each individual. The students were sometimes understand the music about the notes, parts of the methods and working on the rhythm. I try to adapt my teaching style to however I see the student (or peer) is most effective in learning. Some people are more chart based, and like the bars written out in time so they can follow it in a more technical manner. Some have a hard time reading music, so they go off of feel. Professional but fun. First we review the last couple of lessons, and then we do new- building upon what we have done earlier. Each student is unique, and I teach to them individually.
