I started out teaching "house call" style lessons, driving ALL over the area, just to gain students and experience! This was while attending graduate study for Music Education as well. Once I built up a good following, mostly via word-of-mouth, I was able to teach both out of my home (upon purchasing my baby grand piano which is currently in my studio today), and then moving into a shared studio space. When teaching such a specialized topic as the flute, I cater to specific needs of that particular student by bringing out their strengths and providing consistent and genuine positive reinforcement. I use method books such as Trevor Wye, Rubank, and Anderson etudes, depending on the level of the student. In addition to those, I also provide some of my own materials such as scales, fingering charts, and pieces. Knowing that each student will learn at different paces and levels of energy, I balance technical elements with musical ones by having them coincide as much as possible. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 3 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 1 year. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I cater my teaching style to each student's age, skill level and personality. I have a patient, relaxed teaching style but I'm always ready and willing to push the student as far as they want to go, encouraging them to try their best. Lessons are usually organized into a section focused on technique and music theory followed by a period dedicated to playing songs together, polishing up repertoire and focusing on playing music in real time, together as an ensemble. I believe that it is important to take the time to get to know each student's needs and to set realistic goals that will set them up for long-term success. By paying attention to what inspires the student and how they take in information most effectively, I can successfully tailor my instruction. I am a fairly laid back person, and understand that my students have wide-ranging activities and priorities. I will always find a way to use the lesson time effectively regardless of the level of preparation that a student is able to commit to in a given week. Read More

I work to custom-tailor my lessons for each individual student based on their skill level and musical tastes (my main areas of focus for guitar are in the pop/rock/folk/indie genres ranging back to the 60s up to current music and classical/pop/electronic for piano/keys). I believe the best way to learn music is to play music that excites you. I teach everything from technique to theory using the students favorite songs and adjusting them as needed. Read More
