Instruments: Flute
I'm a lifelong musician, and play flute professionally in both classical and jazz styles. Music is so much part of my life and I love sharing my passion and experience. Since I teach the Alexander Technique, I help my students be more comfortable while playing, Ever since I started playing flute as a child, I've gravitated towards others who love music. It's been a wonderful journey so far. I play in a jazz trio and play classical flute and piano duos. Read More

My earliest teaching experience began in high school while teaching several middle school groups for the local zone concerts. I have taught several lesson plans in the Washoe County School district and successfully completed a 14 week internship teaching orchestra at Depoali MS and McQueen HS. I have been a counselor at Lake Tahoe Music Camp for two years now and plan to complete my third and final year this summer. Read More

For students between the ages of 3 and 7, I typically use either the Little Mozarts method or the Birds and Dogs method. For students who are older, I use a combination of methods, including Alfred's, Bastien and Faber. I have also designed and used my own curriculum for students with special needs, including students who have autism, cerebral palsy, nerve damage, ADHD and for gifted students. I incorporate classical music including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Kabalevsky and many others for more advanced students, and especially for students who are competing. Read More

I came to a life in music through the music of my neighborhood, church and public education. My first experience with a Brass instrument (after displaying a woeful lack of aptitude for the clarinet,) was with the Trombone. Unfortunately my arms weren't long enough to get the slide to the lowest positions on the slide, so my teacher gave me cornet to try, a day or so later I could get a consistent sound. Read More

My basic approach to teaching is to evaluate where the student will be most able to gain skill and knowledge that helps them reach whatever their musical goal is. I customize my teaching to each students needs and abilities to optimize success and progress. I found thru my years of teaching hundreds of students that the ones who feel they got something they were wanting to learn are the most motivated to keep going. Read More

If the student is a beginner, I suggest just playing one note for a short time and expand that to three notes. This can be done very quickly, then most students can move to easy tunes on a single sheet of music. This music is commonly known as sheet music and con be accessed and played in line or through the purchase of said sheet music on many sites. If the student in not a beginner, advanced or intermediate I have to do a performance ability assessment. Read More

I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy".
