I have been playing violin since I was 7, and viola since high school. My favorite part of music has always been the connection with others, and I still often play with others, either in chamber ensembles, sight-reading, or as part of an orchestra. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for singing! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I try to set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs!I encourage my students to practice at least 15 minutes per day and I continually each student new materials to practice( which is age appropriate.) There will be bi-weekly master classes that students have the option of attending to perform for other students, and learn from watching (This is a big learning tool). But as I said it is optional. For children, I begin with Donald Waxman's Pageant for Piano series. The pieces are quite fun, and also good for technique. The illustrations also offer many opportunities for story-making and engagement. For adults, I begin with James Bastien's The Older Beginner Piano course, and for intermediate learners, supplement it with pieces from Bartok's Mikrokosmos, Czerny, Kabalevsky, Burgmuller's 24 Etudes, duets and various other literature as appropriate. It's important to me to cater my teaching style to each student. Not all students learn the same way so its not a one size fits all.  Some of my students need more pressure and more practice and want to have more material and others like a more laid back approach. I will spend the first 1-3 lessons to figuring out what your preferred learning method is, what the problem areas are, and what kind of books, tools, and games I should prepare for the rest of our classes. I have been playing the guitar for about 13 years and have been teaching for about 4 years. My teaching experience began in college as I taught private lessons to other students and even some faculty. Since I graduated school, I began working in a music production and recording studio where I teach music lessons and help artists produce and record their own music. Playing duets and tunes form the basis of lessons. You will learn scales and chords, rhythm, tone and being in tune. I like to include a bit of playing without reading music, depending on what your inclination is. For more advanced flutists, we will play Bach, Mozart, Telemann, Quantz (a flutist!) and whatever music you like and bring to the lesson.
