I began teaching private piano lessons in the fall of 2015. I have taught both adults and children, and have found the experience very rewarding, especially with adult learners. I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers. I'm a lifelong musician, and play flute professionally in both classical and jazz styles. Music is so much part of my life and I love sharing my passion and experience. I started playing when I was 5 years old and was taught through Suzuki format. It teaches students to learn by ear and that really made a difference in my style of playing. I started writing my own compositions at 13 years old and that is what made me want to learn more. All through highschool I continued to play and eventually got a small album together. Nothing is more rewarding then seeing my student progress and overcome the difficulties of starting to play an instrument. Furthermore, it is very important that each one of my students progresses at their own pace. That being said, I encourage progression by setting realistic goals depending on the student's level. I always try to make the lesson fun.  I look for things that will keep my students inspired. I am extremely patient.  I always encourage my students in a positive way. I try not to be too pushy. If a student doesn't want to learn a piece then I will try and find something that they are more inspired to learn. I like to give them a choice.
