I start with the end in mind. Once your student has established clear, realistic goals with me, all the focus is on reaching those goals. It is also made clear that it is the student's responsibility to come into each lesson showing clear evidence that they've practiced the music. I'm stern about this. If the student hasn't put in the time, I will send the student home mid-lesson and they lose that lesson. Read More

I am a 19 year-old student of Baptist College of Ministry in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Having grown up the second oldest of five siblings, I understand how to relate to other people and work with them even in difficult situations. As a Christian, I believe in good character principles and righteous living. I ultimately desire the best for others rather than myself. With a life of teaching ahead of me, I am constantly seeking better ways of instructing students, relating with their issues, and helping them find the best way to success. Read More

Hello, everyone! I am a music teacher based in the triangle of North Carolina, and I would love to offer you private lessons. I teach to all experience levels from complete beginner to advanced high school students auditioning to major in music in college. I have experience in many realms of music education because I've taught as a middle and high school band director, middle and high school choir director, and have taught privately on numerous instruments for many years. Presentation is everything when it comes to teaching. My teaching style varies from student to student. After teaching in the public school system for five years, I have learned that no two students are the same. I have learned that presentation and variety is the key to successful learning. My set goals are realistic and encourage the student to strive for excellence. Although I have a Master's degree, I feel like a lifetime music student. Read More

Watching a student find the joy in playing music, makes my job immensely rewarding. I therefore am a positive teacher who tries to celebrate the best about every performance - including sight reading and scales! It’s also important to set realistic goals for every lesson and achievable practice goals between lessons. Since every student learns at a different pace these are understandably individual goals. Some students are inspired by achieving a goal and some are inspired by playing particularly music, so I try to tailor my lessons and goals to them. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. The first lesson i assess the student's ability - whether they can play, read music, and what kind of music they like. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I like to create a relaxed and welcoming environment, and my students have commented on my approachability and my ability to create a nonjudgemental environment. Private lessons should be a place where students feel comfortable experimenting with what they have learned and being open to always learning new things without the fear of making a mistake. I help my students build a strong technical foundation so they have the freedom to express their creativity and play the songs that they have dreamed of playing, without any technical setbacks getting in their way.
