Instruments: Guitar
I will use what I learned at the University of Arkansas in my teaching methods and approach the guitar in a classical sense, meaning properly learning chords, scales, arpeggios and so on. I will have books that the student will learn songs and techniques from depending on the direction they want to go musically. If there is a specific song the student wants to learn I will help them work their way through it note by note. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I don't use any one method book. Instead I opt to pull from a variety of sources depending on the students age, background, and skill level. In terms of repertoire, I focus almost exclusively on classical music. While I am a fan of other genres, I also firmly believe that building a solid, classically-based technical foundation is the only way to really become proficient on any instrument. A student simply is not going to develop by just playing his or her favorite pop songs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Cello Music Keyboard
As a teacher, it is always rewarding to see students not only improved and made progress but also to see them being focused and enjoy playing music. It's helpful if a teacher can create an inspiring environment that encourages students to try different things and to look for more possibilities of playing music. Students feel more motivated when they can find something interesting in music and they feel more accomplished when they are able to play the music they love. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Organ
I approach each student knowing that every student is unique and so is their learning style. While the information that is delivered to each student remains the same, the manner in which I teach each student varies widely. I try to foster the best student-teacher relationship possible in order to gain the confidence and trust of both the student and their families. I also have much experience teaching students with unique characteristics such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger's, etc. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I love teaching woodwind lessons. My goal is to improve my students technical skills, improve their musicianship skills, and make them better humans. I have taught woodwind lessons to middle schoolers and high schoolers. Several of my students have made honor bands, placed first chair, and advanced to All-State. I have been principal chair of the OU Wind Symphony, OU Symphony Orchestra, OkMEA Intercollegiate Honor Band, and the Cimarron Opera Company. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
For over 6 years now, I have been teaching flute within different contexts. Some of the most meaningful teaching experiences I have had have taught me about the unique relationship we each have with the art of music. Private lessons have provided an outlet to encourage and guide individuals based on their needs; educational outreach concerts have given me the opportunity to address easy and complex subjects according to the audience in front of me; masterclasses have given me the opportunity to help individuals gain a strong sense of confidence from a foundation of understanding while nurturing the audience's curiosity regarding music; and working as a Teaching Artist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has brought all these elements of teaching and learning to a brand new level that has only strengthened my foundation as a teacher. Instruments: Piano
I have three areas of emphasis in my teaching: provide the student with a balanced repertoire, demand correct technique, and require a solid foundation in music theory. I will provide my students with opportunities to participate in recitals, festivals, contests, and state theory exams. Students are given clear and precise instruction at each weekly lesson as to what they should accomplish in their practice sessions during the week for the succeeding week. Read More
