ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA, Music, UCLA; MA, Music, California State University, Long Beach

Overview:
I started studying piano in my early teens and have continued studying all of my life.  Even to this day I still practice 30-45 minutes every morning.  I have played professionally all of my life as an accompanist for vocal and instrumental soloists, and having taught high school choral music for over 20 years, accompanied a variety of vocal ensembles.  I have performed for weddings, banquets, parties, and civic gatherings, and have been my church's pianist and chief musician for the past 15 years.
EXPERIENCE
I taught high school choral music for over 20 years in Southern California.  I have been teaching private piano for the last 15 years, the past 4 years in my piano studio and prior to that, 10 years with the Frisco School of Music in Frisco TX.  I am a member of Music Teachers National Associaton, Texas Music Teachers Assocation, and locally, the Denton Music Teachers Association. I have played much jazz in my experience as a pianist, therefore am able to offer instruction in jazz and improvisation.
METHODS USED
My method of teaching puts emphasis on the keyboard fundamentals that develop sound piano technique. I use a systematic approach in which the student progresses from their present level, whatever it may be, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, to their next level in a reasonable time. For students at the beginning or intermediate-beginning levels, I would choose from the Faber, Albert, Leonard, or Thompson piano methods.  I always give the student after each lesson a method of practice for the music/lessons required.
LESSON STYLE
I have three areas of emphasis in my teaching: provide the student with a balanced repertoire, demand correct technique, and require a solid foundation in music theory.  I will provide my students with opportunities to participate in recitals, festivals, contests, and state theory exams. Students are given clear and precise instruction at each weekly lesson as to what they should accomplish in their practice sessions during the week for the succeeding week. The student's daily practice session is a major factor in their study of piano.

It is easy to find a piano teacher who knows the fundamentals of piano, however it is very difficult to find a teacher who understands the nuances of different learning styles, personalities, and challenges that each student faces. Frank, with his flexible understanding of teacher/student chemistry, covers both sides. I have studied piano for 29 years and, so far, Frank seems to be the best overall teacher I've ever had. Within the first few lessons Frank demonstrated a true charisma and positive outlook towards teaching, and towards my specific goals. He is proficient enough to teach advanced classical music, and also has a knack for Jazz, overall improvisation, and modern music. Franks profile pic gives a pretty good idea of what you'll be greeted with at the door, a genuine smile. I look forward to continuing my lessons with him, and will likely transition my son to Franks studio once he grows away from home teaching.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
